(Frequently Asked Questions)
(Frequently Asked Questions)
(1) Question: What is Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT)?
Answer: Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) is a transportation service for people who do not require medical attention during transportation but have
special needs that normal vehicles cannot accommodate. Our specially equipped vehicles are able to accommodate wheelchair users without the need for them to ever
leave their own wheelchair. We assist in getting them into our vehicles and exit with them to make sure they enter their destination safely.
(2) Question: Can I travel in my own wheelchair or will Mobility Health provide the wheelchair?
Answer: Yes, absolutely! You can use your own manual or electric wheelchair. However, Mobility Health can provide you with a comfortable wheelchair (free of charge)
for your ride. If you need us to provide you with a wheelchair or other accommodations, please let us know upon scheduling.
(3) Question: This is my first time using wheelchair transportation. What are some things that I should expect and prepare for?
Answer: We offer private transportation, so no one else will be riding with you except your driver and any caregiver you wish to come with you. Please be ready to exit
your home/facility upon the driver's arrival in order to help your driver stay on time for his/her other trips. The driver will wheel you to the van and secure your
wheelchair using specially designed "wheelchair seatbelts" and a standard seatbelt for you. Please allot about 10 minutes in your trip time for all of this to to take place.
(4) Question: Will my insurance pay for your services?
Answer: Our services are not in-network with insurance providers, but we are more than happy to provide you with a detailed invoice so you may get reimbursed via
your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA). We also accept credit and debit cards in addition to FSA and HSA. Medicaid and certain Medicare
Advantage Plans (aka Medicare Replacement Plans) pay for wheelchair transportation. Please check with your insurance provider regarding your specific plan to see if
they pay for wheelchair transportation.
(5) Question: Can my caregiver or family member ride with me?
Answer: Yes, of course, they can! Your caregiver or family member is welcomed to ride with you. In addition, we are happy to accommodate your service animal as well.
We will not charge extra for additional passengers or service animal to come along with you, but keep in mind that our vans have 2 extra seats so we cannot
accommodate more than 2 additional passengers.
(6) Question: I scheduled a round-trip. What happens if I'm still not done with my appointment by the time Mobility Health comes back to pick me up?
Answer: We understand that life happens and sometimes your appointment might run late. In order not to delay any future clients we can only wait 10min past your
scheduled pick up time. If this happens, we'll schedule the next available driver to pick you up and provide you with a new ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival).
(7) Question: How much advance notice do I need to schedule transportation?
Answer: We recommend at least 24 hours advance notification to confirm the transportation. We can also offer services within 3hrs of your phone call, but please note
availability is often scarce for same-day requests.
(8) Question: I need to make an unscheduled stop during my transportation. Can Mobility Health accommodate this?
Answer: We'll make every attempt to accommodate your stop as long as we don't have another client waiting on us, if your requested stop will be within 3 miles of our
route and take no more than 10 minutes (Example: Picking up prescription from a pharmacy). Please make every effort to notify us during your initial transportation
request if you'll need to schedule a stop, so we can plan your route accordingly.
(9) Question: I'm unable to exit my home via wheelchair because it has steps or a threshold I'm unable to overcome with my wheelchair. What solutions do you have?
Answer: Mobility Health has portable wheelchair ramps made to accommodate manual wheelchairs. The ramps have a maximum weight capacity of 600lbs. Such ramps
can only be used on a maximum of 3 steps since anything higher will usually create too steep of a grade for a wheelchair.
